As an art teacher, parent, and sketchbook enthusiast, I’ve tried a lot of art supplies. Some I love for a season… and some sneak their way into my permanent rotation.
Enter: Ohuhu.
Ohuhu markers took me by surprise in the best way. Affordable, vibrant, and super fun to use, for everything from mixed media sketchbook art to classroom visuals to imaginative crafts with my kids. Ohuhu has officially become one of my new go-to art supply brands, and today I’m sharing the specific sets I’ve fallen in love with (and how I actually use them).
🎨 1. Ohuhu Direct Ink Acrylic Markers – 24 Colors (Nahuku Set)
The set that started it all.
This was the first set of Ohuhu markers I tried, and I’ve been hooked ever since. These direct ink acrylic markers are super vibrant, rich, and juicy, in the best way. The Nahuku color palette is full of fun, unexpected combos (yes to that dreamy blue + coral!), and they work on so many surfaces: paper, rocks, wood, fabric, you name it. I lovvvved working with them in my sketchbook in combination with other media like gouache and colored pencil on brown kraft paper.
Unfortunately for me, my kids discovered this set not long after I received it and quickly made it theirs, lol. But that's ok because they art THEY created using these markers absolutely blew me away! Please be sure to enjoy this Titanic drawing that my son did!
Why I love them:
- Incredibly opaque and vibrant
- No pumping or shaking—just go!
- Mess-free, low-prep, and fun for all ages.
🖍️ 2. Ohuhu Acrylic Markers – 24 Colors, 48 Pack
This set gives you dual tips (fine and chisel), essentially 48 marker ends in one box. They’re great for more detailed art and layering color in bolder ways. I love using this set for both sketchbook projects and labeling classroom visuals. They’re super handy for art teachers who need reliable tools that work on lots of surfaces.
They were the star of the show during our impromptu “mouse house” project, where my daughter and I transformed a cigar box into a cozy home for her stuffed animal. We drew furniture, painted little rocks into food and pillows, and even made curtains. All with these markers. 😍
Why I love them:
- Excellent for fine detail and filling large areas
- Ideal for both kid projects and professional use
- The dual tips are a game-changer
🖌️ 3. Ohuhu Cotton Core Acrylic Markers, Brush + Fine Tip – 36 Colors
My current favorite. 😍
These cotton core acrylic markers feel like luxury. They glide on so smoothly, have beautiful ink flow, and the colors are so rich and matte. I’ve used them in my own sketchbook work, on recycled surfaces, and for creating art room signage and posters. They’re amazing. The best part? You don't have to "prep" the marker tips before using- you just open them and draw.
For the drawing above, I started with brown drawing paper glued into my sketchbook and then used a combo of Alcohol markers to start and then these Acrylic Markers on top. I'll tell you, the brush tip and fine tip options were game changers! I looooved the brush tip especially!
Why I love them:
- Buttery-smooth application
- Brush tip & fine point options
- Zero prep to use!
🖊️ 4. Ohuhu Honolulu Alcohol Markers
Now these aren't paint pens, but they are also AMAZING. I have a few different alcohol markers and these are by far the best quality. I use these for layering color, sketchbook illustration, travel drawing, and more. With dual tips (brush + chisel), these alcohol markers blend beautifully and the color range is incredible. A great Copic alternative (way less $$), especially for artists and students on a budget. Just be aware that alcohol markers DO bleed through paper- so I had to be strategic about where I drew with them in my sketchbook- and any areas that bled through I glued paper on top of to reuse in another way.
Why I love them:
- Love the chisel and brush tip options
- Blend like a dream
- Great for making signage for the classroom and a perfect base for mixed media!
Final Thoughts:
Soooo I might have officially entered my Ohuhu era, and I’m not mad about it. Whether you’re an art teacher, parent, or creative human of any kind, these markers offer a ton of value, versatility, and joy. 🎉
P.S. Note the markers in this blog were gifted, however this post isn’t sponsored. When I come across an art supply that is not only high quality, but also easy on our pockets, I just gotta share! I hope you enjoy this brand as much as I do!
